An Ounce of Prevention

Did you know that well-maintained HVAC systems last longer? In fact, any mechanical systems will last far longer if you keep them clean and in good repair.

You know this from your car. Regular oil and filter changes keep your engine running smoother and cleaner. All kinds of grime and gunk accumulation will make the engine work harder to deliver the same performance. And if an engine has to constantly work harder than it should, the parts will deteriorate faster and lead to other problems.

This is the same situation with your furnace, boiler, air handling unit and condenser. These are major systems that produce the heated or cooled air that keep you comfortable indoors. Their systems are calibrated to work the most efficiently within certain narrow ranges. When something causes them to work outside of these ranges, such as working harder and harder to push air through a dirty filter, problems develop.

We recommend that you have your hvac system checked at a minimum once each year. Ideally, you should have your furnace and air conditioning system checked in the spring and fall each year. A good cleaning, change of filters, and a performance check will keep your equipment in tip top shape.

Our bi-yearly service is a good idea for another reason. We offer spring and fall tune up specials at the change of seasons. This is an economical way to stay on top of your hvac maintenance while preventing those “more expensive” emergency calls when you system stops working entirely on a 95 degree or a minus 2 degree day. When they say “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”, this applies to your heating and cooling systems as well.
